Product Description

When they originally formed in 1991, as the Jennifers, few would have predicted that the band that would soon become known as Supergrass would turn out to be one of the finest exponents of perfectly British pop since The Jam. The trio, Gaz Coombes, Danny Goffey and Mickey Quinn, have become loved across the land bringing joy wherever their phenomenally infectious tunes are heard.

Debut single ‘Caught By The Fuzz’ was rightly heralded as a bratty blast of youthful brilliance that could match ‘Teenage Kicks’ and ‘My Generation’ as a new anthem for teenage living. The follow-up ‘Mansize Rooster’ and debut album ‘I Should Coco’ were even better – drawing comparisons with The Monkees and Madness and prompting a proposed TV show produced by Steven Spielberg! Supergrass became one of the key players in the Britpop wars of the mid 90s, worshipped by press and public alike.

Second album ‘In It For The Money’ was a much darker affair. Singles ‘Richard III’ and ‘Going Out’ were a leap forward in maturity – building on the hook-laden simplicity of earlier efforts and adding heavier instrumentation. By their third, self titled album they had become elder statesmen of indie. From the thrilling ‘Pumping On Your Stereo’ to the woozy ‘Mary’ and ‘Moving’, Supergrass had finally found their sound.

2002’s ‘Life On Other Planets’ was the band’s best yet. ‘Rush Hour Soul’, ‘Grace’ and ‘Seen The Light’ continued to enhance Supergrass’ reputation as one of the greatest singles bands of all time – a band to rank alongside the great artists of the 60s. Where fellow Britpop warriors Oasis had descended into parody and Blur continued to plough a furrow up their own rectums, Supergrass were content to just write brilliant songs.

It’s been ten years since Supergrass first released ‘Caught By The Fuzz’ and no better time for a retrospective of their illustrious career. ‘Supergrass Is 10’ contains all their hits plus new tracks ‘Kiss Of Life’ and ‘Bullet’. A timely reminder of why they remain one of Britain’s most durable bands. Sit back and listen, it’s gonna be alright…
