An elegant, fun and satisfying compilation
This is an essential album for anyone who enjoyed the movie Garden State.
The order of the tracks on the CD closely follows the order in which they can be heard on the movie. Importantly, the compilation is very complete. All the tracks that are heard in the movie are here for you to re listen, with the context of the order of the tracks reflecting the movie. The result is the CD ending and one feeling captivated and satisfied.
The opening track, Coldplay's Beautiful World, emphasises the melancholy mood in which the opening scenes of the movie is steeped. It does perfect justice I think, managing to be blue, but somehow hopeful and not at all angsty.
By the middle of the CD the listener will have heard gems such as New Slang by the shins, and In The Waiting Line by Zero 7.
Another track worthy of mention is Such Great Heights by Iron and Wine, which is an enchanting cover of the original song by The Postal Service.
The culmination of the CD is the beautiful track Let Go by Frou Frou, coming in at the same point it does in the film.
The finale by Bonnie Sommerville is a fitting end to a gorgeous mix of songs.
I recommend this CD to anyone who likes *any* of these bands, or who liked the movie. The CD would be an equally apt choice whether friends are over, or if you are chilling out with your partner or alone.
