This compilation features the best of the bands recorded during the big band era, and reflects the sounds of those times. The high flying big bands of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Harry James, and Duke Ellington kept everybody dancing through the war years of the forties. The popularity of big band music was spread mainly by three things: personal appearances, radio, and record sales. Big band music became the dominant pop music of the world, and the bandleaders – Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller & Artie Shaw were the stars of the day and sold records by the millions.
