Product Description

When the three Grace children - troubled Jared, his bookish twin Simon, and their sister Mallory - move to the ancient Spiderwick mansion, they are at first none-too-enchanted by the rundown Victorian, until they discover a Brownie, an enchanted creature, living in the walls.

They soon find a book - Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You - that will open their eyes to the invisible, odd, and sometimes dangerous world of dragons and boggarts, phookas and fairies, sprites and goblins that is all around them. When they cross paths with Mulgarath, an ogre, they realise quickly that he will stop at nothing to get his hands on the Field Guide.

Predictable

The Spiderwick Chronicles is a classic example of a movie that promises the world and delivers very little. The storyline was very predictable and overused which meant it got very boring very quickly.
Freddie Highmore is an over exposed and over used actor and having him play two of the characters just deepened my dislike of the film.
The basic and overused storyline of an old, spooky house with a secret was lame in my opinion and Hollywood would have done better by making up their own storyline than bother adapting a book with such a basic plot. Every twist was predictable and got really annoying after a while. The movie falls short of the high standards other movies in its genre have placed.
Perhaps if there wasn’t so much advertising and hype before the movie came out, I would have gone into the cinema with lower expectations, but like I said before it promises the world and does little in delivering much.
Maybe it is just that I have grown too old for boring monsters and lame, predictable storylines, but I am rather disappointed at the standard of the movie when there are so many more great movies of its genre out there.
