Spiderman swings in more ways than one!
Once again, director Sam Raimi has delivered the goods with an awesome, action filled entry into the Spiderman saga.
In this, the third Spiderman film, we see 3 new adversaries including the tortured Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), the evil and crazy Venom (Topher Grace) and an old friend with unresolved issues and some new tricks!
Each with their own different connection to Peter Parker, they clash with Peter and Spiderman to produce the excellent action scenes and CG images we have come to expect in these films. Spiderman's final encounter with Venom is particularly good not to mention the visuals created for the Sandman.
Spiderman's relationship with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) is once again put to the test when an evil parasitic organism threatens to unleash the Dark side of Spiderman. There is also another (probably unneccessary) romantic tie to Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard), offering no more than to be a jealousy foil for Mary Jane.
The action is so fast in the fight/chase scenes, that it is difficult for your eyes to keep up, however the score, once again brilliant by Danny Elfman, is engrossing and keeps you well immersed in the story.
There is also plenty of opportunity here for giggles and even sympathy, which is one of the reasons that the Spidey films are so appealing to all ages.
Now the big question is: Will there be a Spidey 4?
I certainly hope so.
The disc has great allover colour and although not quite as crisp and clear as it could have been, still offers a feast for the eyes. The transfer is 2.35:1 with anomorphic enhancement for 16:9 TV's.
The sound is excellent.
