See It With Friends
I went to see Enchanted at the movies with a group of friends and that is the only way I would advise you watch this movie. It starts off in ‘cartoon’ world and is humorously clichéd. Giselle (Amy Adams) is singing for her true love, Prince Edward (James Marsden). This was funny to watch with friends, but, like most things, would have less of an impact if you were by yourself. The movie then goes on to find Giselle trapped in New York City. It is here that she meets a divorced attorney named Robert (Patrick Dempsey), who is about to become engaged, and his six year old daughter, Morgan. Meanwhile, Prince Edward is trying to find Giselle and in doing so, also finds himself in New York. This results in a comedic search for his true love. While Robert is trying extremely hard to get rid of a very confused Giselle, his girlfriend Nancy catches him in compromising situations with Giselle. This is funny, but a bit obvious. Nancy wants to break up with Robert, but Giselle is determined to get them back together because where she comes from, you always marry your true love. Robert desperately wants to make it up to Nancy, but, much to his discomfort, he finds himself falling in love with Giselle. I won’t give away the ending, but I will say that the evil Queen Narissa also makes it into NYC and that is when things get interesting.
Harry Potter fans will be delighted to find Timothy Spall (Wormtail in the Potter films) plays Queen Narissa’s comically dumb sidekick.
This is a light hearted, deliberately cliché movie that is good to watch with a group of friends when you don’t feel like thinking much. I would recommend it to young children aged around 6-10.
