Every good Alien fighter needs a flamethrower!
I don't know how many times I have seen this film, but the number is embarrassingly high.
Director James Cameron has taken the Alien story to the next level combining awesome action and eerie locations to bring us one of the most memorable Sci Fi action movies ever.
Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is powerful as the sole crew survivor of the Nostromo (since destroyed) who is discovered 57 years later drifting in an escape pod deep in space.
Blamed for the destruction of the Nostromo, Ripley loses her licence to pilot and lives with her demons and her cat until contact is lost with the terrafirming families on LV 426, the planet where the Alien ship was originally found.
Ripley is persuaded to join with a greedy and ambitious company exec Carter Burke (Paul Reiser), an artificial Science Officer Bishop (Lance Henriksen) and a team of tough soldiers including Bill Paxton as Hudson who provides excellent comedy relief and Michael Bhein as Hicks who comes through as cool and capable as he was in the original Terminator.
Needless to say, all is not well on LV 426 where all sign of human activity except for the appearance of one child survivor, Newt (Carrie Henn) has ceased.
As the small team delve deep into the bowels of the Atmosphere Processing Plant they slowly unravel the mystery of the missing colonists.
From here on this film never lets up. Pointless to describe the awesome action, countless alien encounters and use of over the top weapons. It's all here and the score by James Horner is excellent, immersing us in every scene from the eerie opening scenes to the final encounter between Ripley and ......
The picture quality could have been better as there are many dark scenes, but that can actually add to the suspense. Sound is terriffic. Ownership of this and the original movie is a must for any Sci Fi fan. Unfortunately, the next two films (Alien 3 and Alien Resurraction) do not make the grade.
