Product Description

Betty Sizemore (Renee Zellweger - Bridget Jones's Diary) is a good-hearted waitress trapped in a small town and a bad marriage. Every night Betty escapes into a fantasy world, as she avidly tunes int to watch her favourite hospital soap opera 'A Reason To Love' and dreams of running away with the glamorous leading man Dr David Ravell (Greg Kinnear - As Good As It Gets).

When Betty's greedy husband puts together a shady drug deal, Charlie, an ageing hitman (Morgan Freeman - Deep Impact) and his protege (Chris Rock - Lethal Weapon 4), enter their world. The pair are sent to reclaim the stolen drugs and Betty witnesses the interrogation and brutal murder of her husband at their hands.

Traumatised by this savage event, Betty enters into an alternate reality and transforms herself into 'Nurse Betty' setting off to LA to be reunited with the man of her dreams. What she doesn't realise, as she lives out her fantasy, is that reality is catching up with her as the hitmen close in.

Nurse Betty is a quirky comedy thriller - hilarious one moment, chilling the next - from award-winning director Neil LaBute (Your Friends and Neighbours). A winner of the best screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival 2000.

Smart films are still around

Betty Sizemore (Zelwegger) begins as a waitress at a coffee shop in Kansas. Unknowing to her, her car salesman husband (Eckhart) is a lying, cheating sack of, well something bad. The car salesman stereotype is duly noted.

After offending two black guys, Charlie and Wesley (the delightfully strange Freeman and Rock), they off him quite gruesomely with Betty looking on. But instead of feeling remorse, Betty snaps and delves into a fantasy state where she decides to seek out the star of the TV daytime soap "A Reason to Love" Dr Ravell, played by actor George McCord (Kinnear). Completely unaware of anything besides the love for her fake doctor, she heads to LA to find him, with Charlie and Wesley on her tail for being the witness to their crime.

With stunning performances around the board, a beautiful story and innocence of it all, Nurse Betty is a surprising movie that has come completely out of nowhere and shot one in the head of Hollywood. Smart films are still around, and the proof is right here.
